Website: Girls Do Ski
This weekend I had the privilege of joining Leah Evans, her Coaches and a group of 32 girls in Revelstoke for an amazing weekend of riding and training. I was brought on to experience the Girls Do Ski camp and illustrate the girls riding and the inspiring mountains and scenic views of Revelstoke BC.
The first day I rode with 2 different groups and got to fully immerse myself in the camp and see how Leah’s program works. The morning was all about taking it back to basics, tweaking techniques and then implementing them on harder terrain. It was amazing to watch the girls evolve in such a short period of time and connect with each other in the mountains. After the day was through I went home and worked on 2 pieces. One illustration was for the raffle give away on Sunday afternoon and the other showcased my experience on the first day.
Piece #1: Raffle Give Away
Piece #2 : Chairlift Bonding
As day 2 kicked off the excitement levels increased. The girls had started forming bonds with each others and were stoked to ride and work on what they had learned. The coaches did an amazing job at working with the girls individually and making sure to challenge their groups to get through certain aspects as a team. Whitney, the GDS intern, and I joined a group in the morning that was channeling their inner spirit animals and yelling ‘commit’ when they were nervously trying to get down harder terrain. As each girl made it down they had the group’s support cheering them on. It was awesome to see this kind of support in the mountains and reminded me of all the friends I have that support me when I am in the mountains.
Piece #3: Old Women Winter
Piece #4 : All Roads Lead to the Mountains
As the weekend came to a close and I traveled back to Whistler, I thought about how grateful I was to be invited to be apart of such an awesome organization. Leah has done an amazing job at creating a company that invites like minded mountain women to come work on their skills and techniques as well as foster an atmosphere where women can form relationships and walk away with new ski buddies. Once home, I have created an additional 2 illustrations to represent the camp.
Piece #4 : Open the Door to New Opportunities
Piece #6 : Adventure Buddies
